Th expulsion of a helium nucleus from  an atom is called  alpha decay. Alpha decay is a type radioactive decay in which an unstable atomic nuclei emits an alpha particle (helium nucleus) and thus transforming an atom with a mass number that is reduced by four and an atomic number that is reduced by two.
