There are 12 oranges in 1 dozen, so 1 dozen equals $1.

To buy 3 dozen, that would be (3 dozen * $1) = $3 for 3 dozen oranges

x= cost for 3 dozen

$1/1 dozen = x/3 dozen
Cross multiply
($1 * 3 dozen)= (1 dozen * x)
$3=x

Hope this helps!  :)
