No they did not eat the whole thing. They are 6 out of 8 pieces of the orange. Therefore there is still 2 pieces left

Okay so:
8/8 - 3/8 = 5/8 - 3/8 = 2/8
So no they did not eat the entire orange they had 2/8 left or simplified into 1/4.
