Give an oral rehydration
solution. Rational: Oral rehydration solutions are successful in treating the
majority of children with isotonic, hypotonic, or hypertonic dehydration. Clear
liquids such as fruit juices and gelatin are not used for rehydration because
of their high carbohydrate content, very low electrolyte content, and high
osmolality.
