Compliment is a word or a phrase that is necessary to complete the meaning of something. For example when you say "she ate", this is enough, this can be a full sentence. However when you say "she crowned": this is not complete, it needs some other phrase such as she crowned a king" :a king here is a compliment, it is necessary to complete the sentence.
