Rescorla applies a cognitive perspective in explaining classical conditioning. He focuses on the extent to which the CS predicts the US.

 

To add, the learning procedure in which a biologically potent stimulus (e.g. food) is paired with a previously neutral stimulus (e.g. a bell) is called classical conditioning.
