The energy possessed by a body by a virtue of its motion is known as its kinetic energy.
Example: flowing of water ,a bullet fired, a moving ball.

And the The energy possessed by a body due to its position or change in shape is known as potential energy.example: a stretched rubber band, a stretched bow,water in dam.
