For this case we have the following:

[tex]x^2-6x+(\frac{6}{2})^2=40+(\frac{6}{2})^2[/tex]

And solving we got:

[tex](x-3)^2=49[/tex]

Then we can take square root and we got:

[tex]x-3=\pm7[/tex]

Then the two solutions are:

x= 10

x= -4
