Let his current age be [tex]x[/tex]. Then

[tex](x-6)(x+1)=960\implies x=\dfrac52\pm\dfrac{\sqrt{3889}}2[/tex]

only one of which is positive,

[tex]x=\dfrac52+\dfrac{\sqrt{3889}}2\approx33.68[/tex]
