The Doppler effect is a change in frequency of energy waves as the source and observer move away from each other. A noticeable effect is the pitch changing, for example a car getting louder as it drives closer to you. It can be measured by using the following equation: fo (observer frequency of sound) = v (speed of sound waves) + vo (observer velocity) / v + vs (source velocity) fs (actual frequency of sound waves)
