Why dose an object that is higher from the ground have more potential energy than one that is lower

Remember that energy is the ability to do work.

If you have an object that's high off the ground, and you hook it up to some
kind of ropes or machine and then drop it, it can do work on the way down.

The higher it is when you drop it, the more work it can do while it's falling.

you get the answer by simply looking at the potential energy formula which is (mass*gravity*height) so when height is greater the potential energy will increase and therefore become greater than the one with less height
