Independent, meaning: without needing to depend on someone or something other than one's self so survive/do what they want to do. eg. I don't need a man, I am independent!

Dependent, meaning: needing help from someone or something in order to survive/do what they want to do. eg. My uncle is very dependent on his family because of his wheelchair.
