If the number is, say, N, then “10 less than twice the number” is 2N - 10.
Pretty simple. take the number given, multiply it by 2, then subtract 10 from the answer.
If N is 7, then “10 less than twice the number” is 2*7 - 10 = 14 - 10 = 4.
