Steps to solve:

-4x + 26 = -2

~Subtract 26 to both sides

-4x + 26 - 26 = -2 - 26

~Simplify

-4x = -28

~Divide -4 to both sides

-4x/-4 = -28/-4

~Simplify

x = 7
