-8 > -5x + 2 > -38...subtract 2
-8 - 2 > -5x + 2 - 2 > -38 - 2
-10 > -5x > -40 ... now divide by -5, and change inequality sign
-10/-5 < (-5/-5)x < -40/-5 
2 < x < 8
-8 > -5x + 2 > -38
Subtract 2 from all 3 "sides"
-10 > -5x > -40
Divide by -5. Flip the > signs to <.
2 < x < 8
