It's the value of [tex]\dfrac{\mathrm dy}{\mathrm dx}[/tex] when [tex]x=1[/tex]:

[tex]y=x^2\implies\dfrac{\mathrm dy}{\mathrm dx}=2x[/tex]

When [tex]x=1[/tex], the derivative/slope is 2, so the answer is C.
