Just like General Sherman, General Philip Sheridan used the “scorched
earth” policy in the Shenandoah Valley. He deprived the Rebel army of anything
that they can use in the area. His approach work as the North drove the South
out of the Shenandoah and it contributed to the total victory of the Union in
the Civil War.
