each student gets 1/8 of the cake.

we multiply 1/8 and 3/4. To do that we multiply the numerators together and the denominators together. This gives (1*3)/(8*4) =3/32 of the cake

we simply divide the 3/4 by the 8 students.

[tex] \bf \cfrac{3}{4}\div 8\implies \cfrac{3}{4}\div \cfrac{8}{1}\implies \cfrac{3}{4}\cdot \cfrac{1}{8}\implies \cfrac{3}{32} [/tex]
