Just as same-base exponents can be added when multiplied, you should subtract the exponent when the numbers are being divided:

[tex] \frac{c^9d^{-7}}{c^{14}d^{-10}} = c^{(9-14)}d^{(-7+10)} = c^{-5}d^3 = \frac{d^3}{c^5} [/tex]
