Equation.

1/2 m - 3/4 n = 16
   n = 18

Substitution.
1/2 m - 3/4(18)  = 16

1/2 m - 13.5 = 16

1/2 m =16 +13.5
   1/2 m = 29.5

m = 29.5 × 2

  m = 59
