John Stuart Mill
defines “utility” as a pleasure and the absence of pain. Utilitarianism takes
into account the happiness of everyone, and weights everyone's happiness
equally. Mill responds that pleasures differ in quality when faced with the
complaint that utilitarianism is a doctrine worthy of swine.
