The Aztecs believed that Cortez was the God Quetzalcoatl due to his light skin and blue eyes.  It was foretold in their religion that the Quetzalcoatl would return and it would lead to their end. Sure enough, Cortez soon conquered the Aztecs and established colonies in Mexico.
