Shoguns were similar to Lords in feudalism Europe. Lords in Europe were given their power by the King and Shoguns were given their power by the Emperor. And just like lords they were the real power in their region who worked closely with other classes in Japanese society. Shoguns worked with civil servants, who would administer programs such as taxes and trade.
