To find the equation of the line that passes through point (6, -5) with a slope 5/2

we already know that slope m=5/2

so we will find the intercept

To find the intercept, substitute m = 5/2 x=6 and y=-5 into;

y=mx + b

and then solve for b

That is;

-5 = (5/2)(6) + b

-5 = 15 + b

subtract 15 from both-side of the equation

-5 - 15 = b

-20 = b

b= -20

To form the new equation, simply substitute m=5/2 and b=-20 into y=mx + b

That is;

y = (5/2) x - 20

Multiply through the equation by 2

2y = 5x - 40

Re-arrange;

5x - 2y = 40
